Will a Dirt Bike Fit in a Ford Ranger

Are you planning on getting a dirt bike? Need to figure out if it will fit inside a Ford Ranger?

I’m here to help!

The Ford Ranger is known as one of the best pickup trucks in the market. Not only does it have a comfortable interior and easy-to-use features, but it also has a great towing capacity.

If you’re the type to go on road trips often, then you’ll love this truck.

But, will a dirt bike fit in a Ford Ranger?

I suggest you keep reading to find out. In this post, I’ll be going over the truck’s features and ultimately answering if you can fit a dirt bike into a Ford Ranger.

Ford Ranger Performance

Is the Ford Ranger equipped for road adventures?

Let’s take a look at some of the features of this truck to figure out.

Engine

This Ford Ranger produces 270 horsepower and has 310 pound-feet of torque thanks to the turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine. Plus, the standard truck comes with a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Besides, you don’t have to worry about finding the right gear as the transmission shifts smoothly on its own.

Not only do you get excellent acceleration, but this truck has almost zero turbo lag. Given the engine capacity, you will have no trouble towing or hauling.

Gas Mileage

If you’ve been looking for a truck that has economical fuel ratings, then you might find the Ranger to your liking. Most competitors won’t be able to provide the same fuel ratings.

You can drive around the city on a rear-wheel-drive model with a rating of 21 mpg. The rating goes up to 26 mpg for rear-wheel drives on highways.

Alternatively, for four-wheel drive, the fuel rating decreases to 20 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on highways.

Drive and Handling

While the Ranger is a bit stiffer than most compact pickups, its suspensions are shock absorbent. Regardless of the bumps on the road, the Ranger ensures you have a smooth drive.

The sharp steering combined with the poised handling makes you feel like you’re driving an SUV and not a truck.

The mid-and top-range models come equipped with a dual-zone automatic climate control system that provides effective cooling inside the cabin. Alternatively, during winters, you can also get heated front seats for the mid-and top-range models.

Another great thing about the Ranger is that you don’t have to worry about visibility. The parking sensors combined with the backup camera allow you to get a clear view of your location as you park.

Off-Road Performance

While the Ranger’s off-road performance doesn’t match up to top-rated off-roaders, the truck still provides a decent off-road experience. The Ranger doesn’t have a specific off-road trim.

However, it does have optional packages that allow you to add features like:

  • Off-road-tuned suspensions
  • Off-road tires
  • Skid plates
  • Crawl control
  • Terrain management system

Interior

If you select the SuperCab models, you get a 6-foot bed. On the other hand, the SuperCrew models have a 5-foot cargo bed.

You can easily fit in four people in the SuperCab model and five people in the SuperCrew model. Moreover, not only are the seats super comfortable, but they’re also quite roomy. The driver seat is also higher, giving the driver a better view of the front.

If you have children, you can attach a child car seat to the two complete sets of LATCH connections on both cabs.

In addition, the voice-activated sync system on the Ranger gives you a decent performance. However, the display screen is a bit small. You can always upgrade the standard infotainment system.

I’d suggest upgrading to the Sync 3 infotainment system. Not only is the interface more user-friendly, but the large screen is touch.

Here’s a general overview of the features you get for the standard infotainment system:

  • Bluetooth
  • Wifi hotspot
  • USB port
  • Four speakers

Upgrades include:

  • 4.2-inch display
  • 8-inch touch screen
  • Navigation
  • 6 to 10 speaker system
  • Satellite radio
  • Two USB ports
  • Apple CarPlay
  • Android Auto
  • Dual-zone automatic climate control
  • Push-start button

Hauling and Towing

As mentioned earlier, the SuperCab comes with a 6-foot bed, while the SuperCrew comes with a 5-foot bed, giving you quite a lot of storage space. This pickup has a payload range from 1560 lbs to 1890 lbs.

Moreover, this truck can tow a maximum of 7500 lbs, which gives the Ranger one of the best towing capacities in the market.

How Much Does the Ford Ranger Cost?

Starting at around $25000, the Ranger XL is a bit cheaper than your average pickup truck. You can find the mid-ranged Ranger XLT for about $29000 and the top-range Ranger Lariat for around $33000.

The overall price range for the Ford Ranger is a bit lower than other rival trucks with similar features.

When budgeting to get a truck, also keep in mind the insurance costs. Regardless of the type of pickup truck you get, insurance prices depend on multiple factors such as the level of coverage and the type of insurance policy you choose.

In addition, your location, credit score, and driving record can also impact your insurance rate. I suggest you do some thorough research before you decide to invest in a truck.

Will a Dirt Bike Fit in a Ford Ranger?

Now comes the important question: Can you fit a dirt bike in a Ford Ranger cab?

In simple words, you can. Some dirt bikes may be too long for the cab, in which case you can keep the tailgate open.

Alternatively, you can also place the bike diagonally and close the tailgate completely. You can also fit in two dirt bikes diagonally, depending on their size.

Another way to fit the bike would be by investing in a bed extender so you can fully close the tailgate. Not only does this give you more storage space, but it also prevents anything from falling out while you drive.

Alternatives to the Ford Ranger

If the Ford Ranger doesn’t meet your requirements, don’t worry. Here a few other options that can easily fit a dirt bike.

Toyota Tacoma

If you’re the type to enjoy off-road adventures, Tacoma has two trims levels that can easily conquer all sorts of terrains. While Ford’s turbo engine provides superior performance, Tacoma’s base-four cylinder still offers decent performance.

Plus, this pickup truck comes equipped with a touch-screen infotainment system.

The Tacoma also boasts an extended cab, which makes it perfect for storing your dirt bike.

Chevrolet Colorado

You get a lot of engine choices with the Chevrolet Colorado. Plus, it also has the capacity to tow heavier loads, making it a great option if you plan on towing a travel trailer.

However, the Ranger still boasts a higher payload.

Colorado’s Crew Cab model comes with a full-sized bed, which has a lot more room than Ranger’s bed. You have ample space to store a dirt bike on this truck.

Conclusion

The Ford Ranger is one of the top-rated compact pickup trucks in the market. It comes with a superior turbo-four engine and has one of the highest max payload capacity. Moreover, the bed of this truck has enough storage to fit a dirt bike.

If you don’t want to store your dirt bike in a truck, you can also consider getting RV to haul your bike.

We hope this post answered your questions and helped you learn more about the features the Ford Range offers.
