Insights on UTV Models
Now that you have taken a look at how UTV prices usually are let’s take a look at the reasons behind their average prices. It will help you make a better choice if you know why you are paying a certain price for your side-by-side.
For easy reference, their average price is also provided beside their names.
2007 Yamaha Rhino 660 (4WD) ($4,795)
The first on our list is this Yamaha model all the way from 2007. It has been a popular and reliable choice for years. Even today, many new models are inspired by this UTV. It is not only durable but also a stable choice. For this reason, it still sells for around $5000.
2008 Kawasaki Teryx ($4,840)
This is another old but efficient model. Since it is so old, you should be able to get it at a very low price. Although it is cheap for this obvious reason, it is still quite expensive. Its average price is around $5000. The predominant reason for this is the engine it uses.
This model of UTV uses an older type of carburetor engine. However, it is still a 749cc, V-twin engine, which works very well. This type of V-twin engine is still used in many UTVs. That is probably the reason why, despite its age, this model is available at the mentioned price.
2010 Kawasaki Teryx 750 ($6,160)
This model is often compared to the 2010 Kawasaki Mule 600 (which we will discuss next). However, this one has a larger engine. The 749cc, V-twin engine is one of its focal points. This is also probably one of the reasons why its average price is still so high.
The other reasons are its towing capacity and its brakes. The front brakes are dual hydraulic brakes. On the other hand, its back brakes are simply sealed oil bath multi-disc brakes. It also comes with two drive trains-the 2-wheel drive and the 4-wheel drive.
The new and improved counterparts for these features increase its price.
2010 Kawasaki Mule 600 ($3,855)
This UTV model is quite cheap. Do not, however, mistake it for the inability to work. Neither does it have any issues while operating. On the contrary, it has received good reviews of working very efficiently when maintained well.
This model usually comes with a 401cc carburetor engine, which is four-stroke and has a single-cylinder. This feature does not fetch much of a price. Nowadays, fuel-injected and liquid-cooled engines cost more.
The reason for its price drop is also attributed to its age. With age, depreciation is very common. Therefore, it is efficient, but you can get it at quite low prices.
2010 Honda MUV700 Big Red ($7,485)
There is no specific reason why this model is still so expensive. However, the most apparent reason is that it is a rare vehicle to find. Most of the one’s available today are from people’s collections. It is rare such collectibles are up for sale.
2010 Polaris RZR ($5,435)
This is primarily a sports-utility vehicle, which is why it is so surprising that its average cost is so less. In fact, it is even less than the Polaris Ranger from the same year. Both vehicles come with the same 760cc engine.
The low price is owed to the fact that sports vehicles were not very popular in the 2010s. They were not much in demand. Rangers were the more popular choice. This is because they could perform a lot more activities than these RZRs.
Additionally, they also do not have the improved features seen in newer sports vehicles.
2010 Polaris Ranger 800 Crew ($7,275)
This model from Polaris, as we have mentioned earlier, was a very popular choice. Plus, it has got good backing from its brand name-Polaris. Needless to say, vehicles from big brand names depreciate rather moderately.
Its price point is comparable to many newer models. However, it’s not all empty promises. This model comes with a two-cylinder 760cc engine. It can also tow up to 2,000 pounds.
This is quite a heavyweight vehicle. Its brand name lends it a reliable reputation too. This is why its average price is still so high.
2012 Can-Am Commander 1000 ($7,215)
Can-Am is a market leader for UTVs. It has been eight years since this model came out. Nevertheless, it has remained at its price range due to the quality assurance of Can-Am.
During their time, these UTVs were the only ones that came below $13,000 with a 1000cc engine. This is why even a brand-new model fetches around the same price. There is a difference of only a few thousand dollars between a brand-new model and a 2012 one. Evidently, the depreciation of these UTVs is quite moderate.
2012 Can-Am Commander 800 XT ($7,425)
You can attribute the price of this vehicle to its large 799-cc V-twin type of motor. It still pricey because it comes with this motor. What also contributes is the Can-Am brand tag. It is costlier than the above 1000 model because it came with more features and accessories.
2013 Arctic Cat Wildcat 1000 ($8,915)
Arctic Cat is a well-known and reliable UTV brand, which is a primary reason why it still fetches a high price. The other reason is its engine, which is a 1000cc one. It is a big and efficient engine.
This vehicle is also often compared to older Polaris models. However, it fetched a higher price because of the brand name and the powerful engine.
2013 Can-Am Maverick 1000 X RS ($8,290)
Although this model is similar to many of the other Mavericks, it is pricier. This is because it is an extremely powerful and stable vehicle. From trail riding to rock crawling and more, it is equally efficient.
2014 Arctic Cat Wildcat Trail X ($6,825)
This vehicle is a standard, regular UTV. It does not have any fancy features as such. This model has a standard suspension mechanism and a simple 951-cc engine. This is why it does not cost much. It has also depreciated quite nicely with time.
2015 Arctic Cat Prowler 500 HDX ($6,805)
In my honest opinion, I prefer this model over the 2017 Prowler 500. This one is cheaper because of its age. At its time, it was a pretty good model. Even today, it is quite affordable for a UTV that is only four years old. The latest version of this model, the 2017 Prowler 500, is only $11,999 too.
It is powered by a 443cc single-cylinder engine that is also four-stroke and fuel-injected. Therefore, even though it is old, there is not much of a loss in terms of engine power. The older version also has a slightly bigger wheelbase.
Since smaller and more compact UTVs are more in demand nowadays, this might be a dealbreaker. However, this is a good choice for a used option as it is only slightly bigger than the 2017 one.
2015 Arctic Cat Wildcat Sport ($8,415)
This model is almost five years old. Nevertheless, it is comparable with some of the Wildcat Trail models from 2017. This is due to the fact that it is a sports model.
UTVs that are branded as sports models have highly sought after. This is because they retain their value much better than standard models. They are made for racing.
This model also brings the same power as many of the newer UTVs. It is capable of producing 60 horsepower with the help of a 700cc, two-cylinder, four-stroke, in-line, fuel-injected engine.
2015 Kawasaki Mule Pro FXT ($8,865)
This 2015 model from Kawasaki is equipped with a four-stroke, three-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that is 812cc. Although it is five years old, its popularity has not waned. This is why its price is still close to $10,000.
2015 Kawasaki Teryx 800 ($8,980)
This is also a sport-oriented UTV model. It usually comes with seating for two. However, some models have up to four. Since it is primarily a sports UTV, it is slightly more expensive.
This is also due to its several accessories. Its square tube frame is made durable and tough with the help of its double X-chassis. Its 793cc engine is powerful and particularly excels in the range of low to mid-levels of torque.
It might not be the cheapest option for an old UTV. Nevertheless, it is a very reliable option. Additionally, Kawasaki provides a warranty of three years on this model.
2015 Honda Pioneer 700 ($8,235)
This 2015 version is only $4,500 less than its newer version, 2019 one. This is because it is still a very popular choice. Honda also has a reputation for producing reliable machines that last for a long time with good maintenance.
It has a smaller engine than the Honda 1000. With the difference of only $4,500, it might just be better to get the newer model. Although this is not a bad option, it retains its price mostly because of its brand.
2015 Can-Am Maverick 1000R ($10,370)
The value of this model is based on several factors. It is powered by a Rotax 1000R EFI V-Twin engine. It also comes with Intelligent Throttle Control (iTCTM) and a multi-function rear rack. The driver and passenger-focused ergonomics certainly provide an edge in addition to the LinQ quick-attached accessory system.
Incidentally, this model was the base for the 2015 Maverick 1000 series. It might not be that expensive, but it is also not exactly very cheap.
2016 Yamaha YXZ1000R EPS Special Edition ($14,285)
The special edition of this model is equipped with seats that match the color of the vehicle. Its clutch system is very helpful too.
It is a Rekluse clutch that can be installed. This prevents manual transmission or the stalling of the vehicle. These are the only difference that the special edition has from its regular counterparts.
2017 Arctic Cat Wildcat Sport XT ($10,980)
The fact that this is an XT version is what makes it pricey even after three years. In this version, the rider and the passenger seating are set 3 inches lower than it is in other models. This produces a low center of gravity, which prevents passengers from feeling the brunt of the movement of the vehicle.
The engine of this vehicle contributes to its high price point too. This engine is four-stroke and 700cc. It is twin-parallel, liquid-cooled, and provides 60 horsepower.
The Wildcat ensures safety and comfort with is automotive handles, passenger handholds, and latches. It also has a tilt steering wheel and 3-point seatbelts.
2017 Arctic Cat Wildcat Trail ($10,415)
This is the base model for the XT. That is the reason why it does not have many fancy features. This also makes it less expensive. Nevertheless, it is a good UTV in its sphere. What’s more, it even ranked tenth on UTV Drivers Top 2017 Base Model UTVs forum. Needless to say, it is an amazing model.
2017 Arctic Cat Prowler 700 XT (EPS) ($8,410)
This model is often compared to the Prowler 500, which comes next. With a $1,200 difference, why pay more for this? It is mostly attributed to its power as well as the storage it provides.
A box of size 22-gallon is present at the hood of this vehicle, which has a payload of 25 lbs. It is even ergonomically designed. This box is easily accessible as well as resistant to water. The glove box compartment has a capacity of 1.9 gallons, and with the central cubby and dash-mounted shifter, it offers comfort along with storage.
All of this definitely makes the vehicle pricier. Additionally, it has a 695cc, 4-stroke, liquid-cooled engine with only one cylinder. This is larger than what most 500 models have. This model can carry a maximum of 600 pounds. That is 100 more pounds than the 500 model. However, they both have the same towing capacity.
2017 Arctic Cat Prowler 500 ($7,260)
At this price, this model is an amazing machine! It efficiently handles all sorts of challenges like rocky terrains and muddy paths. What mainly attributes to the price of this model are its engine, transmission, and storage.
This model is powered by a 443cc single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. What’s more, it has a huge storage space of 15 gallons! A cargo box of 500-pounds is also present at the back. Overall, it can tow up to 1,500 pounds.
This model also comes with Duramatic Automatic transmission. In terms of suspension, it is equipped with double A-arm suspension, which is quite common. You get 7.5 inches of travel with this vehicle.
2017 Can-Am Defender HD8 ($8,365)
Personally, I am quite surprised why this model isn’t costlier. This is in comparison to even some older models. I would say this is owing to some very powerful specifications of this UTV.
This machine has a 50-horsepower engine with PRO-TORQ transmission. Its payload capacity is 1,750, and it can tow up to 2000 pounds. Additionally, it can tow another 1,000 pounds in its tow bed.
It guarantees a comfortable ride and cabin environment. Nevertheless, in my opinion, it is not the best choice.
2017 Can-Am Maverick Max 1000R Turbo X RS ($19,045)
This model is not only a newer one but is also among the tier UTVs from the Maverick series! This is a significant factor in making it pricier. What the Max 1000R is to Maverick, the RZR is to Polaris, which is why it does not easily depreciate.
It comes with a 1000cc machine and is Turbocharged. The newer versions of this from 2019 cost almost $30,000. They may have several fancy features, but for below $20,000, this makes for a pretty good deal.
2017 Polaris RZR XP 1000 ($14,200)
This vehicle has a 999cc engine and comes with 2.0 fox shocks. It shows reliable and efficient performance. While that does contribute to its price point, what also does is it being a new model.
The newer RZRs are well-known for being expensive. This is especially applicable to the UTVs with 1000cc large engines and sport suspensions. These specifications raise their price significantly.
2018 Can-Am Maverick Trail 1000 DPS ($12,045)
You can attribute the cost of this Maverick to its 1000cc Rotax Powerplant, the narrow suspension, as well as the 50-inch wide wheelbase. What also adds to that is that it comes with DPS or Dynamic Power Steering.
This is a really useful feature. It helps you easily navigate this vehicle through the narrowest trails. It can conquer rough terrains with ease.
2019 Honda Pioneer 1000 ($13,830)
Earlier, we have seen a 2015 version of this model. What makes this one so expensive? It is because of several factors. Not only does it have a 999cc Parrell-twin engine, but it is also equipped with an automatic clutch transmission.
I like Honda’s unique dual-clutch transmission feature. It is unlike any other UTV model. This also plays a role in its cost. It is also a popular choice among all fans of UTVs. Its popularity and age make an impact on its pricing.
2019 Polaris RZR 570 ($8,890)
As you must have gathered, the sport-type UTVs are always more expensive. Plus, it is a new model from Polaris. All of this combines to rack up its price.
Compared to other RZRs, however, this model is not as costly. This is because it has a 570cc engine with only 45 horsepower. Even the suspension is rather basic. When you compared it to older models having the same price, you will observe how the size of the engine did not really make an impact on the cost.
2019 Polaris RZR XP 4 Turbo EPS ($22,135)
As you can see, this model is among the costliest UTVs on this list. It is, however, very justified. It is a brand-new model and also a top model for sports UTVs from Polaris.
It is reputed as the best-selling model of the industry. It also comes with a turbocharger coupled with the huge 999cc ProStar engine. It even has on-demand AWD, shocks, and suspension. All in all, it makes for a pretty good deal for $20,000.
2019 Polaris ACE 500 ($6,330)
Even if it is brand-new and from Polaris, the ACE series is quite cheap and affordable. This is because they are single-seaters and do not come with much power.
This Polaris Ace has a 500cc engine that produces only 32 horsepower. Nevertheless, it offers good legroom and 1 gallon of storage space. This is sufficient if you are looking for a 1-person UTV.
2019 Polaris General 1000 EPS ($14,275)
This is the best-selling crossover vehicle in the industry. Plus, it is a new model. This makes it much in demand and, therefore, expensive.
Of any utility-sports crossover, this model has the most horsepower, which is 100 horsepower. It might be a basic model, but owing to its power,23-gallon storage space, and 12-inches of ground clearance, it is much sought-after.
It even comes with electronic power steering. All of this makes up its price.
2019 Polaris Ranger Crew XP 1000 Northstar ($23,910)
This is quite an expensive model. It is probably why Polaris left no stone unturned while making this. Since Polaris provides a lot of accessories like in this model, some of their models are often quite pricey.
This Ranger Crew model is an industry leader when it comes to towing capabilities, which is 2,500 pounds. Additionally, it has 11 inches of travel and 13 inches of ground clearance. Rest assured, you will have no problem going around.
There are even more specifications. Polaris’ Ranger ProShield Cab System, interior heating, air conditioning, and even front and rear ventilation are available with this model. Are you looking for comfort as well as efficiency? This model gives it all.
Lastly, it comes with a sport roof, Polaris’ Lock & Ride glass windshield, and windshield wiper. The sport roof also has an interior dome light. This vehicle truly comes with the best of what Polaris has to offer.
2019 Polaris Ranger XP 900 EPS ($12,195)
The main reason behind this model being this cheap is that Polaris usually make all their accessories extra. So, if you want some extra additions like windshields, full doors, or a winch, you will have to purchase them separately.
Nevertheless, it is a hard model to beat. It is only a base seating model but comes with True-Demand all-wheel drive. Powered by an 875cc ProStar four-stroke twin-cylinder engine, it produces 68 horsepower.
It even has 12 inches of ground clearance. Whether you are on flat ground or a rocky terrain, you can expect smooth and reliable performance.
2019 Polaris ACE 150 ($3,695)
Are you looking for a small and compact vehicle? This inexpensive model might just be the best choice for you. It comes with a small engine and low ground clearance capabilities. Even its towing capacity is not very great. This model has been designed with young drivers in mind.
The engine is only 149cc on this UTV. You can power this vehicle up to 29 miles per hour. Polaris has also added a feature to limit the top speed for this vehicle. This is for the safety of all learners, especially children. As they learn, they can be slowly allowed more and more speed and power.
Factors that Influence the Price of UTVs
We have just seen what effects the prices of individual models. However, there are also some general factors that influence the price of a UTV. If you know about them, it will help you plan your budget better.
Age of the Vehicle
One of the biggest factors is the age of UTV. With age, the value of the vehicle also depreciates. Compared to other vehicles like cars and motorcycles, however, UTVs depreciate at a much slower rate.
Condition of the UTV
The condition of the vehicle makes a significant impact on its pricing. This is especially applicable when you are buying from a private dealer.
All the prices mentioned in this blog have been taken from NADA vehicle pricing. NADA usually compile their pricing from certified vendors. These are parties that ensure the condition of the UTV is good and working efficiently before they try and sell it.
Accessories
Are you looking forward to adding extra accessories to your UTV? These influence your cost too. Brands like Can-Am, Honda and Polaris, usually do not come with added features like doors, windshields, or winches. You have to get them separately.
They might only be present in the special edition or certain XT, HD, or such models. Needless to say, these models are also more expensive than base models.
Some other factors that play an important role are the size of the vehicle, the engine, and the suspension type. UTVs with bigger and more powerful engines cost more. More number of seats, extra shocks, and suspension also hike up the price.
Endnotes
Keep a note of what you are looking for in your UTV. Is there any specific feature you would like? Are you interested in a particular brand? Remember to sort these out before diving into the prices.
With this extensive list of UTV prices, we hope you can find the best one for yourself. They are diverse and efficient machines. Take a look at new as well as old models to get the one you want.
