History of Ford Raptor

The first-ever Ford Raptor emerged in 2010, like an enhanced version of Ford’s SVT Lightning. Its owners, for its on-road capability, highly esteem the SVT Lightning.

The SVT Raptor was purpose-built for the Baja 1000 races, with tremendous off-road supremacy and an incredible mileage.

Ford has released two generations of the Raptor range as an upgrade to the regular F-150 series. The first generation Raptors were manufactured from 2010 till 2014.

The second generation came in 2017.

Ford F-150 2020 model continues the second-generation Ford Raptor legacy. In 2019, Ford also launched its first-ever Raptor Ranger.

So let’s dig into why truck drivers worldwide consider Ford Raptor as one of the best pickup trucks.

Ford Raptor First Generation (2010-2014)

From 2010 till 2014, the first generation of the magnificent off-road oriented pickup truck was Ford’s highlight.

Ford made sure that new models were more comfort-oriented with each succession and provided premium mileage to its owners.

Here are some of our favorite picks based on mileage, from the first-gen Raptor:

2010 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor

Named after the fiercest dinosaur, a Velociraptor, the first-ever beautiful F-150 SVT Raptor, is a robust model manufactured by the Ford Motor Company.

The 2010 model changes the preconceived notion regarding pickup trucks. The Raptor can also be your faithful off-road companion for carrying out typical routine tasks of a pickup truck.

Since it’s a new model, it features the latest technology, such as an in-dash navigation system. You can activate the navigation system with voice control called SYNC.

Apart from that, this model also includes innovative features such as satellite radio count and dual-zone climate control.

Following are some specs of this particular model, making sure that you fall in love with Raptor Range:

  • MSRP $13000 – $22,060
  • 4.6L V-8 Engine
  • 4-spd auto w/OD Transmission
  • 248 @ 4,750 rpm Horsepower
  • Mileage: 100 miles per hour

With the 2010 Ford Raptor, you can fulfill all your dreams of flying in a car. It promises to provide you best mileage with its heavy-duty chassis and a sturdy suspension.

2014 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor

Just like its predecessors, the 2014 Special Vehicle Team (SVT) Ford Raptor, smashed the market with its launch.

The 2014 model is capable of combining fuel economy, flexibility, and reliability. This model is equipped with a powerful 6.2-liter V-8 that produces 411-horsepower and 434 pound-feet of torque.

Apart from that, the 2014 Raptor also showcases Ford’s standard features such as MyKey, SecuriLock, SecuriCode, and SelectShift, to ensure your safe fun ride.

Here are some specs from the last model of the first-generation Raptor:

  • MSRP $44995
  • 6.2L V-8 Engine
  • 6-spd w/OD Transmission
  • 411 @ 5,500 rpm Horsepower
  • MPG 11 City / 16 Hwy

The exclusive 2014 Raptor Model gains approval from all the off-road extremists. I will highly recommend it if you are looking for a vehicle with robust features and superior mileage.

Ford Raptor Second Generation (2017-present)

I am sure that right now you are wondering why Ford felt the need to begin a whole new generation for the Raptor Series.

Well, the answer lies in the success of the first generation series, well received by the audience.

The first-gen Raptor belonged to the Special Vehicle Team (SVT), whereas the second generation Raptor is branded as Ford Performance Raptor.

Ford Performance basically combined both Ford Racing and SVT under a single umbrella in 2014, thereby generating the need for all new second-generation Raptors.

So let’s see which second-gen raptors make it to my favorites:

2017 Ford F-150 Raptor

Just like its ancestors, the 2017 all-new Ford Raptor brings in a variety of improvements to its offering. Pickup trucks are often considered a road burden due to their heavyweight and bothersome maintenance.

But the Ford F-150 Raptor breaks the norm of a conventional pickup truck and makes the Raptor more comfort-oriented.

The second-generation Raptor continues the legacy of the immortal Raptor series by positioning itself on comfortability and luxuriousness.

This Raptor comes with six different drive modes making sure it is versatile for your usage. These modes include normal, weather, sport, mud/Sand, Baja, and Rock Crawl.

Each mode analyzes transmission mapping and rear-differential settings with exceptional accuracy. Baja and Mud/Sand modes select high-range all-wheel drive automatically, while Rock Crawl prompts the driver to shift into low range.

Here are some of the specs you should consider for Raptor 2017:

  • MSRP $49520
  • 3.5L V-6 Engine
  • 10-spd w/OD Transmission
  • 450 @ 5,500 rpm Horsepower
  • MPG 11 City / 16 Hwy

2020 Ford F-150 Raptor

The 2020 Ford Raptor, unlike any other pickup trucks available in the market, is a unique truck for off-road enthusiasts.

Even though the Raptor is mostly similar to its second-generation forerunners, the 2020 model receives an updated suspension.

This F-150’s twin promises to maximize its owners’ comfort and fun. The new Fox Racing adaptive dampers automatically adjust in real-time as driving conditions change.

The new Raptor amazes you with advanced technologies for improving the accuracy of the drive. It has a low-speed Trail Control, making it easy for climbing rocky pathways and other harsh off-road obstructions.

The 2020 version sure does make changes to the original F-150 version, but it also maximizes its passengers’ enjoyment.

A significant change made in this version by Ford is replacing the previous V-8 with 450-hp twin-turbo V-6. Trust me when I say this, it is still bonkers.

This splendid beast can tow up to 8000 pounds without any issue and can carry 1200 pounds at the same time.

Here are some jaw-breaking specifics for Raptor 2020:

  • MSRP $53,455
  • 3.5L V-6 Engine
  • 10-spd w/OD Transmission
  • 450 @ 5,000 rpm Horsepower
  • MPG 15 City/ 18 Highway

This is not where the list ends, though. The unrivaled pickup truck also includes a touchscreen infotainment system SYNC 3. Moreover, to take care of your entertainment needs, the Raptor supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as well.

Considering the versatile offerings 2020 Raptor offers, its starting price is a relative bargain. The Raptor ensures to fulfill your mobility dreams.

Conclusion

For the past ten years, Ford has been producing two generations of Raptors, ensuring your safety, convenience, and transport needs.

The mighty Raptor has flown and continues to fly higher by delivering its promise with every successive launch.

I hope this post clears out all the worries regarding the reputable Raptor’s mileage. It is definitely a faithful traveling companion who can accompany you in the toughest deserts and harshest weather.
